IMDT Expands Pin-to-Pin Compatible SOM Portfolio Powered by Qualcomm Dragonwing Q7 Series Family with New Dragonwing Q-7790 SOM
KFAR SABA, Israel, October 20, 2026, IMDT today expanded its pin-to-pin compatible SOM portfolio powered by the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ Q7 Series with the addition of the IMDT SOM, built on the Qualcomm Dragonwing Q-7790 Processor. The IMDT SOM family comprises the Dragonwing QCS5430, Dragonwing QCS6490, Dragonwing Q-7790 and Dragonwing QCS8550 processors. All four share the same 37 x 30 mm footprint and the same carrier board design, giving engineering teams scalable AI performance of up to 48 dense TOPS.

Choosing compute early is a commitment. If the AI workload grows after the hardware design is fixed, that design typically has to be redesigned and requalified. Designing with the pin-to-pin compatible SOMs lets teams move between processors as requirements change and enables flexibility with scalable AI and computing options. The same architecture can also support product variants with different compute requirements, allowing engineering teams to reuse more of the underlying hardware design across a product line. The Dragonwing Q Series Family delivers scalable AI performance ranging from 3.5 up to 48 dense TOPS across the Dragonwing QCS5430, Dragonwing QCS6490, Dragonwing Q-7790 and Dragonwing QCS8550, depending on the processor.
The Dragonwing Q-7790 combines an 8-core Qualcomm Kryo CPU at 2.8 GHz, a Qualcomm Adreno 722 GPU and a Qualcomm Spectra 7-series triple ISP in a 37 x 30 x 2.1 mm module. The IMDT module supports 48 MP capture across 4x MIPI CSI camera inputs, WQHD+ playback at 144 Hz and dual 4K60 display output, with 24 dense TOPS of AI performance. The combination targets multi-camera vision workloads in robotics, medical devices, industrial automation, and commercial vision systems.
IMDT's roadmap also includes a planned SOM based on the Dragonwing Q-8750 and a separate SOM portfolio powered by Dragonwing IQ Series, extending the company's Dragonwing portfolio across additional edge AI performance and industrial application requirements.
The SOM powered by Dragonwing Q-7790 supports Android and Linux, together with Qualcomm Trusted Execution Environment, Secure Boot, authenticated OTA updates and encrypted storage. Wireless, memory, storage and PHY options are customizable to the requirements of the target product.
"Most of our customers are not choosing a module. They are choosing a hardware platform they may live with for years," said Avi Shimon, CEO of IMDT. "The SOM portfolio powered by the Dragonwing Q Series Family is designed so today's compute choice does not lock their hardware design into one performance tier. A team can move between performance tiers as its AI workload grows while keeping the same hardware design."
"Dragonwing Q Series Family spans a wide range of edge AI performance, from entry-level vision to high-end on-device inference," said Eric Mazzoleni, VP, Industrial IoT and Robotics Sales, Europe of Qualcomm Germany GmbH. "IMDT’s common form factor gives developers the flexibility to establish an architecture early and scale compute capabilities as product requirements evolve. This helps provide a path to scale edge AI development for intelligent cameras, video collaboration devices, AI TVs, vision systems and more."
The IMDT SOM powered by Dragonwing Q-7790 and its evaluation kit are both available to order now. The evaluation kit gives engineering teams a defined path from first evaluation to volume production. Full specifications are at https://www.imd-tec.com/products/q-7790-som.
IMDT will exhibit at TAITRONICS & AIoT Taiwan 2026, 20-22 October, at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, booth J1312. Visitors are invited to stop by the booth to meet the IMDT team.
